Our client is a leading Global vegetable seed Company with offices across the Global and Headquarters in Thailand. They are seeking a technically astute development scientist/breeder to drive and execute new traits and technologies for the Company’s breeding team in Brassica, Okra and Marigold. You should have experience in plant breeding, a solid commercial sense and an appetite for innovation. This is a Global role and reports directly to the Crop Breeding Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, implements and manages breeding trials in various locations using appropriate breeding approaches and technologies to ensure speedy results and optimum use of resources in various locations
  • Ensures accurate and timely recording of relevant data throughout the trial period using the prescribed information and database system of the company
  • Supervises, directly or indirectly, all aspects of breeding trials, including sowing and planting, pollination, plant selection, data collection, seed harvesting, etc.
  • Submits trial and progress reports to the CBM and or Country R&D Operations Managers for review and discussion, as required
  • Oversees continuous germplasm collection and selection activities to ensure a rich and steady supply of diverse materials for breeding pipeline development
  • Participates and contributes to the crop management planning discussions to understand and align with commercial directions and decisions
  • Keeps up to date with scientific developments and translates ideas from scientific literature into new approaches to breeding practices, and techniques to improve project implementation or to address breeding problems

Requirements:

  • Master's in Plant Breeding is preferred, PhD desirable. Proven expertise in plant breeding from academic trainingAt least 5 years of relevant plant breeding experience in a similar field or crop, with successful outcomes in breeding programs reflected in commercial achievements
  • Displays commercial sense and is pragmatic
  • Ability to use, analyze data and information and make inferences beyond what is obvious and connect the dots
  • Strong project management skills
